Open Shutter

Rituals often take the form of repetitive actions - sometimes subtle and almost imperceptible. They function as anchors of meaning and belonging, especially in times of crisis. The Open Shutter installation, presented under the theme of De Profundis, is structured as a series of viewing stations that offer glimpses into intimate and public rituals that have emerged following October 7, 2023. The repetitive locking of a door expresses a desperate attempt to keep disaster at bay; compulsive refreshing of news websites provides an illusory sense of control within a disintegrating reality; washing one's face; protest; prayer. A complex mosaic of sensations, memories, voices, and images converges into a single, resonant work. Ritual operates as an action with structure yet remains an open, infinite space in constant motion. The installation invites visitors to immerse themselves in rituals that appear to emerge almost spontaneously, as mechanisms of healing, acts of resistance, or religious practices, born of faith, ideology, or profound loss.
