Or Chozer (Reflected Light): An Active Vision

Or Chozer stages a confrontation between contemporary works and the Ardon Windows—the monumental vitrail triptych created by Mordecai Ardon for the entrance hall of the building that previously housed the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. The exhibition engages in a living correspondence with Ardon's work, exploring the act of vision itself: the strain of seeing, and the effort required to sustain a prophetic gaze. Ardon's windows are dedicated to Isaiah's utopic vision: "and they shall beat their swords into plowshares [...] nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." This is a vision of an end, but also of awakening—a charged space in which a national horizon becomes a universalist demand, an ancient force pressing insistently toward the end of days. Although the contemporary works are "hosted" by Ardon, this hospitality is anything but neutral. The Ardon Windows function as an active force that defines the terms of encounter. Or Chozer does not seek to resolve this tension, but to dwell within it—between host and guest, between blinding illumination and reflected light glimmering through cracks.
